Competition in AKC Rally began in 2005, and since then the sport has rapidly risen in popularity. That is not surprising because Rally is not only challenging, it’s a lot of fun! Rally requires teamwork between the dog and handler as they navigate a course and perform different skills, such as jumping, backing up, and turns. There are four levels of Rally: Novice (for beginners), Intermediate/Advanced, Excellent, and Master. Each level increases in complexity, difficulty, and the length of the course. For example, dogs work on leash in Novice and Intermediate and off leash in Advanced, Excellent, and Master. Jumping is introduced at the Advanced level, and dogs must learn how to execute three different types of jumps.
