Detective Scent Work Seminar

When: Thursday and Friday, February 7-8, 2025, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Brooklyn Hts. Community Center located at 225 Tuxedo Ave, Brooklyn Hts., OH 44131

Who: Tony Gravley is the Owner and Founder of Next Generation K9, TWG Group LLC. He has over 30 years of experience as a Trainer, Instructor, Manager, and Handler of Police and Military Working Dogs.

What: Tony’s training plan is based on his years of training professional detection dogs and teams. The bomb dog must have total focus and desire to find odor, solve the problem, and locate source. This workshop will not only tap into problem solving but will give your dog the tools to solve problems and bring out motivation to get to source like you have never experienced before! Desire, Drive and Commitment to get to source will be developed through exercises. More importantly, your understanding of the “how’s” and “why’s” will be clarified to make you a more effective trainer. Both your training plan and your future trialing experiences will benefit from your newly gained knowledge.

Tony will work with 12 teams. This seminar focuses on the fundamental skills needed for a successful Scent work career.  Tony believes in pairing to build drive and the desire to search which gives dog confidence and motivation to find the targeted scent.

WORKING SPOTS:

A handler may only work one dog per Working Spot. The team must be trialing at the Novice level or comparative level in other venues.  Your dog must be on odor and has trialed. If you compete in a venue other than AKC, please make sure this is an appropriate training for your team.

Dogs will be crated in the car as we are renting the Community Center and we will be working at Rosby’s Nursery.  Please consider this when deciding whether to apply for a Working Spot.

Working Spots are limited — applying for a Working Spot does not guarantee acceptance. In the event of cancellations, preference for Working Spots will be given to those on the Wait List and then to those registered for Auditing Spots.

AUDITING SPOTS:

In order to allow for maximum working time for the working dogs, auditors need to hold their individual questions until breaks or lunch.

For Working Spots: a water bowl, and rewards/soft treats.
